FAQ
There are a few ways I sell my blades…
1.) Signing up for the special monthly newsletter!
At the beginning of each month I will send out a special newsletter. It will contain a link that will go to a page that on the specified date and time will show new blades I have created for sale for that month.
The sale page will be offered to only those that sign up for the newsletter or follow Trinitas Forge on FaceBook. It is a “sneak peek” at the new blades and the sale will last 24 hours, at which time all unsold knives will be posted to the public for sale. Signing up for the newsletter and or following Trinitas Forge on FaceBook gives you “first dibs” on all new creations!
2.) On occasion I may have a special sale via Facebook, alone. In that case I will make an announcement on Facebook 24 hours before I post the blades for the sale.
3.) Commission a blade.
Much of my time these days are spent working on commissioned blades. This is on a case by case basis and is dependent on the proposed project and time available. Generally commissioned blades are orders for blade designs I have created in the past. If you are interested in commissioning a blade send me an email to get the fires burning!
All my blades are created using high carbon steel. The reason is, I love simple carbon steel! It forges and works easily, holds an excellent edge, and I love the patina carbon steel develops over time. As you can see in the galleries, I do not create overly fussy, mirror polished blades. My blades have a rustic feel, with simple and rugged designs. They are tools. (Perhaps with a bit of grace).
Being made of carbon steel and not stainless, your knife will either come with a patina crafted by me and or will develop a patina of its own over time. This is one of the beauties of this steel. It is alive and will subtly change over time. It will also rust if not properly cared for!
Having a custom blade probably means you have a certain fondness for blades and taking care of a carbon steel blade is quite easy but demands a bit of attentive ritual. This is how to do it.
Use the blade, Wipe the blade, rinse the blade, dry the blade, apply the thinnest layer of food grade oil, repeat!
Also if you have a leather sheath, it is intended for transport only. Do not store a blade long term in a leather sheath. The leather may absorb and trap moisture and eventually rust the blade.
The developed patina of the blade will help protect the blade from oxidation, but will not completely protect it from rust. Most rust, if dealt with quickly, will be a surface issue only and can be gently rubbed off with a little food grade oil and a rag. In certain cases of denser rust, fine steel wool can be used gently. If doing so also removes some of your patina, you can force a bit of patina by washing and drying the blade thoroughly and then cut a few onions with the cleaned blade and let its acid add back a fine layer of natural patina. There are many ways to patina a blade. Time and use is one of them, however many other options can be found online!
The number 3!
I have a certain fondness for the number 3. Trinitas is a latin root word for that number. You will notice each blade has 3 little dots in a triangular formation stamped into them. This is my “maker’s mark”. The triangle is the alchemical symbol for fire, the number 3 represents my tagline.
“of self, fire, and steel.”
